Mother’s Day is right around the corner and finding the perfect gift has been . . . challenging. How do you show your mom exactly how much they mean to you? Well, jewelry is a nice place to start in my personal opinion. Who doesn’t love getting nice jewelry as a gift? My mother is definitely a traditional Midwesterner so I wanted to buy a gift that reflected our past and the area where she raised me. I thought there would be no better way to express that than buying a gorgeous piece of Southwestern jewelry to complement her wardrobe.
What to Buy? . . . What to Buy?
The perfect Mother’s Day gift, in my mind, is symbolic of your relationship. Since we grew up in the Southwest, I figured the perfect gift for my mother needed to use that motif.
Your gift should also inspire happiness and have a reminiscent tone to it. For me, I thought back and remembered how my mother used to take me to these old pueblo ruins in Sedona. We would drive up to Flagstaff to visit some friends and see the Grand Canyon then take a day trip up to Sedona. After all the hiking, eating, and occasional sledding, it was a nice change of pace to enjoy and take in the cultural significance of the pueblo remains.
Which leads me to my Mother’s Day gift, I found a beautiful set of Southwestern style earrings. The turquoise, jade, opal, and Mother of Pearl (wink) stones came together to form a beautiful image of a pueblo set against the blue summer’s sky.
I was blown away at the level of detail put into this piece. The stone-setting skill in the silver alone must take a talented hand and I have no clue how they managed to take these shaped stones to make such a wonderful picture. I don’t even think I could draw a pueblo but I was never great at art in school so what are you going to do? Anyway, they set multiple stones, cut into just the right sizes, in place to make this happen.
The image on these earrings really took me back to my childhood and my hope is that it will have the same effect on my mom. The only thing that bummed me out was that I paid full price and it looks like the store I bought it from is having a Mother’s Day sale. I got the email about a week after I made the purchase and already had the piece. That just goes to show, always do your research but I suppose that’s more my fault than anything.
Back to my Mother’s Day point. If you really want to show your mom how much you care, the gift has to come from a sentimental place. If you’re interested in Southwestern jewelry check out the site I got my Mother’s Day gift from here (sign up for their email list and use the sale).
As always, thanks for reading and have a Happy Mother’s Day!
